WHEN TO CALL 911, 311, OR NON-EMERGENCY

You should call 911 when you need prompt, urgent help from firefighters, paramedics, or law enforcement. If you need to report a problem to law enforcement, but there is no immediate danger, use the non-emergency line. Sacramento 311 is a centralized call center for residents to call and notify the City of services needed. Reports can be made to 311 by phone, email 311@cityofsacramento.org or the Sac311 mobile app.

  • An event occurring that poses an immediate threat to people or property             
  • An active fire     
  • Crime in progress            
  • Car crashes, especially if someone is hurt               
  • A medical or psychiatric emergency

  • To report suspicious activity
  • For nuisance calls (i.e. barking dogs, noisy neighbors, landscape, and construction, etc.)
  • When a crime has already occurred, and offenders are no longer on the scene
  • To obtain information from the Police Department
